Stampede down Dunedin Thunder 10 - 6 in pre-season clash in Gore!

Stampede Bert HainesThe Southern Stampede got off to a great start to their 2012 campaign to reclaim the NZIHL Championship with a pre season win against regional rivals Dunedin Thunder. The game was hotly contested as both teams attempted to assert themselves prior to the regular season. The Stampede were only running two full  lines as many players have yet to arrive in Queenstown for the season. A standout performance from veteran Matt Swirtz in goal secured the win as the Thunder mounted a late game comeback. Rookie Callum Burns also picked up his first goal in national league play. The Stampede's first regualr season games begin in Auckland vs. reigning champions Botany Swarm followed by the first Winterfest home games against Dunedin on 23/24 June and the West Auckland Admirals  29/30 June
